Force your Windows 98 to use the Microsoft steering table because Windows 98 seems to like it that way
If your system is already stable, you can file this sucker away under the 'just in case' cabinet.
Now, is your Windows on an emotional roller coaster?
Right click on 'My Computer' and pull up its properties.
In the Device Manager tab, expand the 'System Devices' section and open the 'PCI bus' option.
In the IRQ Steering tab, uncheck every box except "Get IRQ table using MS Specification table".
This will force your OS to use the MS steering table and not the others (obviously).
Upon applying this tweak, your system may be more stable; your mileage may vary
